Rachel and Jason | Just Married Session | Downtown

A few of our brides and grooms prefer to have a larger variety of portraits of the two of them, and there is no better way to do that than to schedule a Just Married session. We schedule the shoot within a few weeks of the wedding (sometimes the very next day, if you want!) and we can shoot during the best part of the day, evening, to both avoid the heat and get some really awesome light!

Rachel and Jason drove over to Knoxville the day after their wedding to do some shooting downtown. Here’s a peek!

It rained on us a little bit, but we waited it out under the awning of a coffee shop, then continued on our way!

The sun came out right after the storm moved through, and we saw a little rainbow!

Most people are unaware of how quickly a wedding day can become stressful and chaotic. The feedback we’ve received from the Just Married sessions have been wonderful. Removed from the (sometimes) unreasonable time constraints of the wedding day, Just Married sessions are the best way to get an extra collection of photos if portraits of the two of you are of significant importance. Hi hi people!

I hope everyone had a great Christmas and New Year! We’ve had almost a week of being back in the office full-time, and have already kicked off our 2008 season with Rebekah and Derek’s wedding yesterday afternoon! I’m so excited about diving into some fun new techniques we’re putting into action this year!

We had our California side of the family visiting with us throughout the holidays, and while they were here we offered to take Matt’s brother and his wife, Jeremy & Katie, out to our favorite hot spots for a fun photo session on New Year’s Eve!

Here are a few of my favorites!

This was actually just a tiny mud puddle in a field we like to shoot in. We recently bought a new extra-wide lens to play with and have been so pleased with the beautiful starbursts and sunflares it’s been giving us!!

After the sun set, we headed downtown and started out in the stairwell of the parking garage…

Then we worked our way around Market Square and Gay Street.. I played with a slight texturing on this one…

I knew this was probably the last time we would get to take advantage of the downtown Christmas lights, too!

This was also the last night before the Market Square ice skating rink closed, so we stopped for a few fun shots before wrapping it up and heading home before we froze to death

And this was a group shot that we took using a tripod and a timer (*gasp* blasphemy! But you’ll forgive us, right?) in our front yard on the 29th:

Shoot With Beckstead – Matt Rocks!

Last week, Matt flew solo and traveled to Nashville for a workshop with the incredibly inspirational David Beckstead, one of the top 10 wedding photographers in the world. I squealed when I saw the incredible collection of images that he brought home!! He did such a fantastic job, and ever since he’s been home he’s been reeling with ideas.. I don’t think he’s shut up yet!

Stephanie & Karl

Our friends Stephanie & Karl were visiting from Wisconsin this week. Stephanie is a former Knoxvillian, so she and her husband were spending some time here and enjoying the beautiful early Spring weather! They have begun their own photography business up in Green Bay, so definitely check out their website!

We took turns shooting each other, and I’ll admit, I now know that being on the “wrong” side of the camera is not an easy thing to do! Her are some shots that we took of them:

Birthday Celebration

This family had gathered in Knoxville to celebrate a surprise birthday for their mother. They were all wonderful to spend time with, and we were blessed with a bright overcast day, perfect for outdoor lighting!

Please note that we have now stopped taking new appointments for traditional family group sessions in order to keep our portrait focus on documentary, candid style sessions for young children and couples.

Extreme wide angle shots are always fun!

Over Thanksgiving weekend, Matt and I traveled over to Pigeon Forge to meet up with this sweet family who had traveled from 3 different states to spend some quality time together. We really enjoyed shooting with all of them, as it was so obvious how much they care for each other!

Last Sunday, we met up with this adorable family at the park on Campbell Station Rd. for a fun family session. This little man is only 14 months old and was so patient and well-behaved with us while we took pictures! Isn’t he a cute little guy?
