I’m posting this wedding out of order, but I wanted to feature it while it is still cold and snowy outside. Laura & Ken were married on January 30th in a gorgeous, snowy Bleak House wedding. Living in Knoxville, we have never before had the chance to shoot a wedding in the snow, and it was definitely an experience we won’t soon forget! It was a beautiful day filled with lots of love and emotion, while mother nature blanketed the setting in a layer of seamless white.

Laura & Ken chose to see each other before the ceremony, and this was their private first look!

They were both SUCH troopers with the freezing cold weather and snow! Laura is wearing open toe shoes and I’m pretty sure her feet went numb. I don’t know how she did it!

I think Laura’s look is so fitting with Bleak House. Doesn’t she look like a bride straight out of the old south? Love it!

The ceremony took place inside, just off of the main hall. It was very intimate and cozy and Laura and Ken were just beaming at each other.

Laura’s family has an inside joke about these hats, which they call “Eddie Hats” (yes, Cousin Eddie from National Lampoon’s!) They made great props, and as an added bonus, kept people warm in the chilly tent! This is Ken’s step-dad, and he is a total hoot with an absolutely contagious personality. You can’t help but laugh!

Laura’s dad and brother in an impromptu performance. This was so special!!

We had a great time catching up with our friends, family, and clients on Friday! Everyone seemed to arrive at once, so I hope we were able to make the rounds and say hello to everybody that came by. My sister and bro-in-law snapped a few photos for us in the collage above. My sweet mother-in-law called up Lisa Foster Design and sent over a stunning pot of orchids. For the past year, I’ve been obsessed with orchids. I want to fill my life with them.

Hey everyone!

Don’t forget to stop by and check out our new place TONIGHT on Market Square from 6-8pm!

The closest parking garage is the Market Square Garage on the corner of Walnut St. and Wall Ave, which is free after 6pm. Once you’re on the square, look for Soccer Taco (closer to the Krutch Park side) and walk right up to their front door. We weren’t able to get our sign installed on the building exterior in time for tonight, so look adjacent to Soccer Taco’s entrance and there is another glass door with our name on it. Come in, come upstairs, and we are #201. Just come right in!

Everyone is welcome! We’re looking forward to chatting with you all!

Cathy & Jeb are definitely on top of their wedding plans – they are getting married in Spring 2011! I envy their patience.. Matt and I were engaged for 8 months and even that felt like an eternity!

We met up with them back in the fall when the color was still exploding for their engagement session. We’ll be doing a bridal session with Cathy a bit closer to her wedding, which makes her one of my new best friends, since everyone knows that bridals are my favorite type of portrait session!

The clouds did break up at the end of the session, which was greatly appreciated. It seems like 2009 (and 2010 so far) has been the year of dreary overcast skies, or flat out rainy (sometimes SNOWY!) weather. I’m hoping to see Mr. Sunshine quite a bit more in the upcoming wedding season.

I received another shipment of albums and decided to post another entry with some photos. Since many of our clients plan weddings from out of town, we are not always able to meet with them before the wedding. This can make deciding on an album a tricky process, since they are unable to hold them in their hands and get a feel for what appeals to them. Hopefully these posts will help clear up any confusion about the different book types!

Hannah & Bailey chose the Heirloom album, which is an alternative to the Craftsmen Flush book. This album has a fully-designable cover, and has thinner, lightweight pages. The thickness of the pages allows for a smaller binding which can hold more images.

This album is a 10×10 and contains 60 pages. It has a removable dust jacket and is delivered in a glossy black case stamped with the names of the bride & groom.

A look inside

A look at the binding. I love how lightweight and portable these books are! Smaller copies are perfect gifts for your parents.

We recommend the Heirloom for those who just can’t bring themselves to only include a small collection of images in their album. Expandable to 100 pages, we can showcase your entire wedding day quite easily in one of these suckers.

I also received another beautiful Leather Craftsmen Flush book for Cathy & Matt..

They chose a smooth Euro black cover with no photo inset, with centered branded name stamp.

I love all B&W layouts..

The handsome groom deserved a page all to himself!

And a peek at the always impeccable flush binding.

Winter is definitely album season in our neck of the woods, so stay tuned for even more peeks at all of the fun albums we are producing!

We enjoyed shooting this wedding so much, mainly because we were able to shoot the way that we prefer – with our lips zipped and our eyes open. Aside from a super brief family portrait session after the ceremony, every single photo was candid and unscripted. As a result, everyone was able to forget we were there and enjoy their time together. This was a French-American wedding, with much of Sebastien’s family flying in from France to spend the weekend at the beautiful Von Bryan Estate.

Enjoy this look at their wonderful wedding day!

I just received another shipment of gorgeous wedding albums from Leather Craftsmen, and as always, they are so beautiful. You can smell the leather on these puppies from a room away! I decided to take a few shots of the books before Allison comes by and whisks them away. She might have to fight me for them first, though.

Allison’s book was a 10×10 in sand leather, black modern name stamp, and cover photo inset. This color is quickly becoming my very favorite leather. It’s so rugged and earthy and wonderful.

Gorgeous flush binding.

The florals in this layout are by the amazing Lisa Foster of Lisa Foster Design

Allison’s parents chose an 8×8 Roma wine-colored book with a solid color and modern branded name stamp. Love that rich color!

I get so excited whenever new albums arrive. So many hours have gone into each wedding from the first time a bride and groom meets with me until the delivery of their finished album. It’s so rewarding to see everything come together after working with them for months and months. It’s a long process with a fabulous ending (until they come back for family photos when they have their little ones, of course!!)

Matt and I recently returned from Nashville, where we attended 4 days of photography seminars at the DWF Convention, and visited the gigantic Imaging USA trade show right across town at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel.

We were able to listen to full days of classes taught by some of the top minds in our industry. They so generously shared their knowledge and experiences, and we are grateful to them for caring to help so many photographers grow and improve their businesses. I filled page after page with notes, spent my evenings trying to organize them all, and came home with my brain bursting with ideas, inspiration, and a few reality checks. It was worth every second.

I put together a short video blog/slideshow of our trip. I had planned on taking lots more photos and videos, but that was overshadowed by wanting to keep track of and process all of the wonderful things we were hearing in the seminars. Here’s a glimpse!
